Latest News!!!

Margaret here. I am happy to report we (Sarah, Suzanna, Andy, and Margaret) had a great visit with Mike on Sunday. He is now in a rehab facility called Metro West on WestGate in Orlando. Metro West Nursing & Rehab Center. 5900 Westgate Drive. Orlando, FL 32825. He is allowed visitors, and would love to see friends, but just get in touch with me (Margaret) first so I can let Sarah know you want to visit, as a courtesy. You can send me an email at margareteldridge@yahoo.com or text me at 8139197242 and I will get back to you promptly. I can also give you directions at that point. The facility is pretty easy to get to. At any rate, Mike is becoming more like himself all the time. He is talking up a storm, though it is difficult to understand what he is saying. He is also eating voraciously, though the food at the place doesn’t look very tasty. If you visit, some yummy vegetarian food would probably be welcomed–nothing too spicy though. We brought Mike a large strawberry milkshake, and he couldn’t suck it down fast enough. Sarah was trying to slow him down to save him from a frosty beverage brain freeze, but he was basically like just let me have the damn shake. We played ball, and Mike is getting pretty good at both throwing and catching. The cast is off his leg, all the tubes are out, and he is getting physical therapy. He is still very weak, and aware of that fact, which is frustrating for him. Also, he was pandering for cigarettes while we were there. That was the first time Mike mentioned smoking since he woke up. Obviously, smoking cigarettes is not conducive to healing or to his general health, so if you visit, please don’t give Mike any cigarettes. I don’t know where he got the idea, but he hasn’t smoked in over 3 months now, and it would be nice if he could take this opportunity to make a break from it. That, of course, is just my humble opinion. Anyhow, keep checking back on this site, and if you visit, make a post. It won’t appear immediately if it is your first time posting because I have to approve new posts/posters, but I check regularly and will get it published for you. Thanks to everyone for the awesome support and turnout over the weekend at the VFW event and the show at New World. Both were a great success and Sarah is extremely grateful! There is another event planned that Erin mentioned to me, and I will post it on the Events and Fundraisers page as soon as I have more details.UPDATE MARCH 18th from Margaret-

Good news this morning. Mike is being moved out of ICU to a regular room. He has still not awakened, but his vitals are good. BP, temp, blood sugar are now normal. Please no new visitors just yet, per Sarah’s request.

Status Update 3/14/2009 10:00 PM
3.14.2009

Sarah had a good visit with Mike tonight from 8 to 9 PM and is feeling better about the outlook. Mike was active tonight, squeezing Sarah’s hand, wiggling toes, and lifting his right arm up and down. She also believes she saw him move his eyes back and forth, like in REM sleep, and when she lifted his eyelid and said, “look at me” his eye moved in her direction, though there was no real focus. He is still running a temperature, which could indicate pnemonia. Apparently, that is common for people who are on respirators for more than a day or two. Cultures are being done on samples from his lungs to see, and they will treat with antibiotics if anything shows up. They were short-staffed at the hospital today, so the tracheostomy has not been done to replace the endeotracheal tube, and the gastric feeding tube has not been inserted, so the formula is still being delivered through a tube in his nose (NG tube). Those procedures may have to wait until Monday. Will report again after our morning visit, so stay tuned. Thanks again for all your support! Margaret

 ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SCOOTERIST IN NEED!!!! Pease Read!
One of our own, Tampa Two Stroke member Mike Formato and his family are in great need and can use any help you or your friends are able to provide.
Tampa Two Stroke Vintage Scooter Club attended at scooter rally in St. Augustine this weekend. Members Kieran and Jesse road their scooters from Tampa to the rally. Yesturday, Stuart and Mike decided to meet the guys and ride back with them. While attempting to meet up, Mike was involved in a very serious accident on his scooter. He is currently in the ICU in Orlando and in serious but stable condition. His wife Sarah and 1 1/2 year old son Ian, are commuting to be with Mike daily.
What I am asking for is that your thoughts and/or prayers be with them through this tough time. Also if you are interested and/or willing to help financially, at this time gas cards (or pre-paid credit cards for gas) to help Sarah with her expensive commute to Orlando from Tampa or grocery gift cards (Publix, SweetBay, Whole Foods) are very welcomed!!!! Those and any other items you see fit to help them can be sent to : Sarah & Mike Formato, c/o Amy Wells, 807 East Giddens Ave., Tampa, FL 33603

if its easier to help online here is the link to Stella Speed – http://www.stellaspeed.com/fundraiser.htmThe direct email address is fundraiser@stellaspeed.com
I will keep you posted. I do ask that you do not try to contact Sarah at this time! Please allow them to work through this privately until she is willing & able to answer questions. However, if you do have any further questions please direct them to me. Kieran and I are staying in touch with close family friends to get updates until Mike is able to have visitors.
Mike Formato is a loved and very dear friend of ours!!! Anything you are will to do we will be forever greatful!

Welcome to WordPress you two stroke addicts! This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!Tampa Two Stroke Vintage Scooter Club is about as informal of a club as you can ask for.  We gather together on the weekends and here and there on some weeknights.  If it isn’t storming or lightning, we ride, as a matter of fact we ride year-around. This is because we believe that all bikes need to be ridden, not doomed to an existence of being lifted around on trailers or displayed on a shelf. The scooters we ride are not trailer queens or restored machines, but definetly daily riders. The meet-ups are casual & fun We have couple of parties a year, several ride-ins at local shops, an annual Rally,  & ScooTampa Nights.
